Santa Barbara Motorbikes

Welcome

Thank you for your response to my posting on Craigslist. By your reply to my post you have been invited to this website not yet available in the search engines. By being directed to the "key" to get here, I hope you entrust what I share herein is my intelectual property and it is not to be shared with anyone else. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about what follows in a reply, my email which can be found at the bottom of this page.

Over the years there have been a few small cycle showrooms around S.B., mostly alongside cars. But we likely both, in our love for motorcycles, see this as a vision that Santa Barbara is ready for, that is, a dedicated showroom. With the affluent sector along with people wanting to go back to enjoy earlier times (50's, 60's, 70's), it is a great time to capitalize on this "vintage" market explosion, and Santa Barbara is a wonderful place to do it. Santa Barbara has long appreciated the classics of old. I remember attending the Concourse de Elegance year after year, as far back as the late 60's. Muscle cars are now $20-40K, where just twenty years ago they were readily available. I believe bikes are heading the same way with values starting at over $4,000, that can still be had for under a grand. That's not to say that restored classics can't fetch upwards of $20K and higher.

My full business model is something I won't share fully until I have a partner in place, but suffice it to say we won't just be waiting for buyers, as I have separate revenue streams in place to compliment earnings and offset expenses. My forte' is buying and selling while doing so in the right environment, thereby making it an "event." Picture open-beam rafters (with vintage bikes hanging above of course) and two rows of a mouth-watering selection of motorcycles, while we host regular wine gatherings and themed events (Summertime 60's, Leather & Lace, Bad Boys & Bikestresses, Vintage Vixens, Sunday Morning Jam etc..). Vintage photographs of bikers and sales propaganda sell the 'era' on the walls.  Blown up placards describing motorcycle company histories stand behind each bike on display with exquisite details of that particular bike as well. Hell, before you know it, independent collectors, riders and riding club members will be all in the buzz.
It looks much like a museum, but here... everything is for sale!

With the right investor who elects to take advantage of my background in the food industry (former Chef and restaurant General Manager) the adjacent lease property could be a compliment as a cafe serving exceptional deli sandwiches as "Gear Grinder Cafe."

One unique approach, based on years of selling bikes (and cars), is to post a price tag that invites "Closed Bids" with a minimum, as well as "Asking Price" and "Market Value." A well-planned pricing strategy can actually entice the would-be buyer to take action. Putting "Today's Special" tags on randomly selected inventory also keeps the pricing flexible and shoppers who have an eye on a particular cycle may pop back in to see if they can hit the day that bike can be driven home for a better deal. More traffic, more sales!

Oh, and the last person you want to meet walking into a showroom is some arrogant prick (lol) so we will have ladies smartly dressed and some wearing bandanas and frayed jeans. Don't be put off seeing my color come forward, it's just that we have all walked into a Dealership and been completed turned off by wanna-be bikers acting like they know their shit (and they often don't).

That's not to say...that we, a couple of partners, can't shine and make guys and gals feel comfortable on-site to welcome them! After all, this will certainly be an establishment in which we can be proud of.

Brass Tacks:

I seek an investor to accompany me on this awesome journey and so that we can jump-start inventory, cover operating expenses and quickly get to profitability. I also have a location selected (not far from the Funk Zone and State Street) and with the right investor could hit the ground running right away to lock it down as well as grab 20 bikes to fill the space. That's not to say that I will not be making a huge investment in time, sales/management contribution based upon extensive experience and monies invested myself. My current and several businesses are profitable but also keep me in Hawaii two to three weeks each month (about 70% of the time). However, if you are not the hands-on type or limited in time to offer this business, I will staff it. Hours will be 1pm to 8pm (Wednesday thru Saturday), except of course the later evening galas and Sunday morning open-house, inviting those out for a weekend ride.

Having grown up in S.B. it is my desire to return and a partner will be able to assist me in this transition having his feet in S.B., if nothing more than to oversee; while I make frequent trips there most every month, for a week or more at a time.

Now, it's your turn to share! In your email reply please tell me in earnest:

(a) What it is you feel that you can contribute (business wise and personally)
(b) What smart amount of investment it would take to roll this venture and
(c) What amount of investment you are considering, or comfortable with; based             upon what I have outlined so far (only the amount you have set aside today).

And lastly...
(d) Is the decision yours alone to make?

Don't take offense, but with so many "tire-kickers" on CL I have to ask a few discerning questions to weed out he/she who will become the partner I am seeking.

Note: Moving forward, if it is confirmation you need, I can provide extensive references both personally and in business that will attest to my experience and moral fiber which makes me an excellent choice as a partner (both in Santa Barbara and in Honolulu).

Much thanks and I look forward to your next reply!
